Dublin born mezzo-soprano / contralto Victoria Massey began her musical studies at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin with Deirdre Grier-Delaney and pianist Trudi Carberry. In 1994, she was awarded vocal finalist of the Lombard and Ulster Bursary Award, which was broadcast by RTE. Between 1995 and 1999, Victoria furthered her vocal studies at the Hochschule Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria with Lilian Sukis and accompanist Alessandro Misciasci. There she also trained under the Lieder specialist Hartmut Höll. In 2004, Victoria won the 1st prize at the C.A Seghizzi International Singing Competition in Gorizia, Italy. Recently, she was awarded 1st class honours in the Masters in Music (Performance) from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
In Italy, Victoria played the role of Dritte Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at Teatro La Fenice, Venice and Adelma in Turandot by Busoni at the Sferisterio in Macerata, where she also sang in Pier Luigi Pizzi's production of Die Zauberflöte. She performed in Mozart’s Requiem in Bergamo and Viareggio and has given recitals at Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Sociale di Trento and at the Alto Livenza Festival.
Victoria made her debut with Opera Ireland in 2008 in the role of Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss and later that year she also performed the role of Mrs. Page in Falstaff by Balfe at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. This was recorded by RTE and is now available on CD commercially. In November 2009, Victoria performed the role of Flosshilde in Das Rheingold by Wagner with Opera Ireland and with the same company she recently performed the role of Gertrude in Roméo et Juliette by Gounod.
In December 2009, Victoria was invited to sing as a guest soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra at a lunchtime concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
She has performed most of the major oratorio works around Ireland including more recently Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the NCH in Dublin in May 2009.
In September and October 2010, Victoria Massey worked for the first time for the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London as cover for Nerea in Steffani's Niobe, conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock.
In 2011, she could be heard in Elgar's The Dream Of Gerontius in Birmingham, Rossini's Stabat Mater in Dublin, as well as in performances of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (role: Marcellina) at Klosterneuburg Festival in Austria.
In 2011/2012, she will be singing Messiah at Dublin's National Concert Hall as well as Elgar's Sea Pictures and Mahler's Kindertotenlieder in Mexico City under the baton of Jan Latham-König.
